About the Blogger:
Crafty cook, cultural critic, full-time media junkie. I read; I bake; I watch TV; and I listen to hours and hours of NPR. And I love to write, hence the blog. Some of my essays have been featured “Editor’s Picks” by the editors of Open Salon, a blogging community associated with Salon.com. I’ve also had two Op-Eds published in Featuring America, which you can read here and here.
About the Blog:
Verbal Cupcake is essentially the product of all my obsessions: Food, media, my beloved San Francisco. There are other little bits thrown in (sometimes politics, sometimes education), but most of the content has to do with food, media, or “the City” (and there are those especially exciting times when one post covers all three).
About the Categories:
Musings on media–real (like the news) and imagined (like The Real Housewives of Orange County).
Stuff related to food, but not necessarily recipes, like Food Network’s bizarre cake challenges, or NBC’s commitment to bad nutrition advice, or a monument to my adoration of Ina Garten’s friend, T. R. Pescod.
Sub-category of “Foodstuffs.” Mostly recipe reviews (with the recipe included). Why recipe reviews? This is why.
I was a writing teacher for a long time (yet I am remarkably young and vivacious!). Sometimes a girl needs to vent about her job…but not just ranty-type venting…venting in a controlled, purposeful way.
Words, pictures, San Francisco.
Speaks for itself, no?
